Choose the Correct Type of Extinguisher

It is natural to use the extinguisher located nearest to a fire, making it essential that the correct type and size be placed close to a potential hazard.

The following classes of extinguishers are suitable for the corresponding types of fires…

Click on any of the links below for more detailed descriptions of the types of fire extinguishers and what they should be used for.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Carbon dioxide gives fast, safe, and effective protection for fires involving energized electrical equipment and flammable liquids. They are highly effective, easy to use, and leave no messy residue to clean up. They are generally suited for use indoors, making them ideal for protection of electrical panels and other equipment that would be destroyed using other, less suitable, extinguishing agents.

FE-36

The FE-36 agent is an exceptionally effective fire extinguishant. Since FE-36 discharges as a liquid, it provides an effective discharge range up to 16 feet. FE-36 replaces Halon 1211 as the agent of choice for applications where the agent must be clean, electrically non-conductive, environment-friendly, extremely low in toxicity, and exceptionally effective.

Film-forming foam (AFFF)

AFFF Foam – Aqueous film-forming foam
AR-AFFF (foam) extinguishers are effective on Class A common combustibles, as well as both hydrocarbon and polar solvent types of Class B flammable liquids, so they eliminate the application guesswork associated with other foams. The unique synthesis base of the “Universal Ultra” foam has no offensive odors, is non-toxic, environmentally friendly, biodegradable and extremely simple to use and clean up.

FFFP Foam – Film-forming fluoroprotien foam
This extinguisher adds Class B fire fighting capability to the Class A effectiveness of the extinguisher. The Alcohol Resistant fire fighting agent is effective on fires in a wide variety of Class B materials such as alcohols, polar solvents, hydrocarbons and combinations such as gasahol. Applied to a non-ignited Class B liquid spill, it will seal the surface minimizing the chance of serious fire.

Halon 1211

This is an effective agent in extinguishing fires involving energized electrical equipment and is often found protecting critical assets in the information technology and aviation industries. Though its use is still acceptable with the Environmental Protection Agency, halon 1211 has been linked to the depletion of the ozone. Consequently, we encourage development and implementation of a long-term plan by our customers for replacement of halon 1211 extinguishers with more environmentally friendly extinguishing clean agents like Halotron 1 or FE-36.

Halotron 1

This Halon alternative portable extinguisher is designed to meet any special hazard need where Halon-1211 was specified and used previously. Halotron 1 is ideal for protecting office computer areas, data storage, telecommunications, and high tech clean rooms. Halotron 1 has EPA approval and is the government approved and specified clean agent alternative.

Purple K Dry Chemical

Purple K dry chemical is especially effective on high-hazard Class B fires. It is generally superior to other dry chemicals, making it ideal for use in industrial and commercial premises where there is a significant flammable liquid risk.

Standard Dry Chemical

Dry chemical stored pressure fire extinguishers are designed to meet the needs of industrial and commercial premises where there is a flammable liquid risk. They are suitable for use on class B and C fires, and can be mounted on any surface with wall hook, forked hanger, or optional vehicle bracket.

Water as an Extinguishing Agent

High-pressure water is ideal for common combustible materials such as trash, wood, and paper. It is especially effective on deep seated fires that must be soaked for extinguishment such as mattress, dumpster, or couch fires.

Class D Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher

Our class D dry powder extinguisher is suitable for use on metal fires. It contains a special blended Sodium Chloride based dry powder extinguishing agent. Heat from the fire causes it to cake and form a crust excluding air and dissipating heat from burning metal. Metal fires involving magnesium, sodium, potassium, and sodium potassium can be successfully extinguished with this extinguisher. It will also control zirconium, uranium, and powdered aluminum fires. It incorporates a soft flow extension applicator that ensures the operator’s hands are kept away from the extreme heat and prevents inhalation of the toxic fumes caused by the burning metal … (read more PDF file)

Wet Chemical

Due to new and improved cooking appliances, higher heating rates, and industry trends towards using more unsaturated oils, the potential for severe restaurant fires is greater than ever. Our wet chemical K Class fire extinguisher is best suited to attack these difficult commercial kitchen cooking appliance fires. Using a specially designed wet chemical agent that both smothers and coats a fire, this fire extinguisher is very effective!

Water Mist

Water Mist is the ultimate extinguisher for Class A fires and where a potential Class C (electrical) hazard exists. The fine spray from the unique misting nozzle provides safety from electrical shock, greatly enhances the cooling and soaking characteristics of the agent and reduces scattering of the burning materials. Water Mist extinguishers contain de-ionized water making them the best extinguishers for protection of hospital environments, valuable books and documents, telecommunication facilities and “clean room” manufacturing facilities. Water Mist extinguishers are easy to use and less costly to maintain and service. Special non-magnetic models are available for use in MRI environments.

Water Pump Tanks

Water pump tanks are ideal for forestry operations and extinguishing small recurring combustible fires. They are available in 2.5 and 5 gallon sizes, with options carry directly on the users back. Strap brackets available for truck installations. Water pump tanks can be quickly and economically refilled by the user, which minimizes downtime during fire fighting operations.
